How can we help?

Getting started
What do I need to set up?
Your age, height, weight, activity level and goal. Everything else (dietary preferences, allergies, target weight) is optional and can be skipped.
Why do you ask for sex?
Only because the energy equation we use gives different estimates for female and male bodies. It isn’t shown to anyone and isn’t used for anything else.
Can I change my target?
Yes. In the app, open the You tab and tap your plan. Your starting target comes from your age, height, weight, activity and goal, using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation. You can change it, but we’ll still keep it within safe limits — never below 1,200 kcal (women) or 1,500 kcal (men), and no deficit for under-18s or during pregnancy.
Scanning and logging
A barcode isn’t found. What now?
Scan the nutrition label instead, or add the values yourself. You can keep a custom food private, or choose to submit it to Open Food Facts to help others.
Why does a food say “estimate”?
Meal photo results and some restaurant items are estimates. We mark them clearly, show a confidence level, and let you correct anything. Photo estimates can’t see hidden oil, butter or sauces, so a quick correction makes a big difference.
Why is a number different from the packet?
Community barcode data can occasionally be out of date. Tap the source on the food to see where the number came from, and edit it if the packet says otherwise.
Does logging work offline?
Yes. Entries you make offline are saved on your phone and synced when you’re back online. Scanning new products needs a connection.
Subscriptions
How do I cancel Premium?
On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Tasteally → Cancel. On the web: Account → Manage billing. You keep Premium until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
How do I restore my purchase on a new phone?
Sign in with the same account, then open the You tab and tap Restore purchases.
How do I get a refund?
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. For web purchases, contact us from the contact page.
Privacy and your data
Who can see what I eat?
Only you. Challenge friends see your display name and how many days you’ve completed — never calories, foods or weight. Share cards only include what you choose to show.
How do I download my data?
In the app: You tab → Privacy & data → Export my data. On the web: Account → Your data → Download. You’ll get a file with your profile, logs and settings.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: You tab → Privacy & data → Delete account. On the web: Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your data. If you subscribe through Apple, cancel the subscription in your Apple ID settings too.
Wellbeing
I’m worried about my relationship with food.
You’re not alone. Beat, the UK eating disorder charity, offers free, confidential support on 0808 801 0677 (beateatingdisorders.org.uk). You can also switch on calm mode in You → Your plan, which keeps numbers in the background.
